Rakibulism
Rakibulism is a design-and-life philosophy created by Bangladeshi designer Rakibul Islam. It holds that both a product and a life should be designed on purpose rather than drifting by accident, and it rests on four practices: staying present instead of spiralling, treating failure as information rather than verdict, designing deliberately, and building stamina slowly. Applied to design work, it becomes psychology-first: how an interface makes a person feel is treated as a design requirement, not a finishing touch.

What is Rakibulism?
Rakibulism is a philosophy of designing on purpose — products and life alike — built on resilience, mindfulness, and presence. It was created by designer Rakibul Islam, and in practice it means treating human psychology as the first input to a design decision rather than the last.
It is not a design system, and it is not motivational-poster content. It is closer to a working stance: a set of things to hold onto while you build, particularly when what you are building is not going well.
The name is simply his own, turned into an -ism, which he is aware sounds self-important and uses anyway — partly because the alternative was a vaguer label that would have said less, and partly because the philosophy is genuinely derived from one person's specific experience rather than assembled from reading.
Where did Rakibulism come from?
It came out of burnout, around 2022 to 2023, after several ventures failed in a row. Shelleye, Seen Design Lab, Edaca, and Flowlyze all collapsed before Panze held. Rakibulism is the framework he assembled to keep working through that, rather than a theory he arrived at from reading.
That origin matters for reading the rest of it. Every principle below is a response to a specific failure mode he hit personally: spiralling through outcomes instead of acting, reading a failed launch as a verdict on himself, drifting instead of choosing, and burning out by mistaking speed for stamina.
The deeper roots go back further — to a childhood in poverty in rural Bangladesh where resourcefulness was survival, and to more than a thousand poems written as a way of processing what he saw. Rakibulism is the point where that habit of close observation got turned back on his own working life.
What are the core principles of Rakibulism?
Four: stay in the present instead of spiralling through every possible outcome; when something fails, breathe before reacting and treat it as information rather than a verdict on you; design your life on purpose instead of drifting through it; and build real stamina the slow way, because there is no shortcut that does not cost you later.
Presence, first. The practice is to stay in the actual present rather than running every branch of every possible outcome. Most of the paralysis in creative work comes from simulating futures instead of acting in the one that exists.
Failure as information, second. When something fails, breathe before you react to it. A failed product tells you something about the market, the timing, or the execution — it is not a verdict on your worth. He logs each miss as tuition rather than as a wound, which is a distinction that sounds small and is not.
Deliberate design, third. Design your life on purpose instead of letting it accumulate by default. This is the principle that makes it a life philosophy and not just a design method: the same intentionality you would apply to a product's information architecture applies to how you spend a decade.
Slow stamina, fourth. Build capacity the slow way. Every shortcut that skips the work has a bill attached, and it arrives later with interest. This is the anti-hustle clause, and it is the one most directly earned from burning out.
What is the Rakibulism formula?
L = φ + phy × (psy) / E=mc² → L². Written half-seriously: philosophy (φ) gives you direction, the physical body (phy) gives you capacity, psychology (psy) regulates how you actually execute, and energy is the dial that scales all three. Point them the same way with enough energy behind them and life stops being something that merely happens to you — that is what the squared term means.
He is upfront that it is half-serious. It is not a scientific claim and it is not meant to survive dimensional analysis. It is a mnemonic for the fact that direction without capacity is a wish, capacity without regulation is chaos, and all three without energy is a plan you never start.
The useful part is the multiplication: psychology multiplies rather than adds. How you regulate execution scales everything else, which is why the philosophy spends most of its attention there.
How does Rakibulism apply to product design?
As psychology-first design: the way an interface makes someone feel is treated as a requirement, not a finish. Instead of starting from a visual pattern, a Rakibulism-shaped process starts from what the person is trying to do, what is actually in their way, and what the interface implies but does not say.
In practice that means designing for the moment of hesitation. The most informative event in a product is not the successful click — it is the half-second where someone pauses, unsure. That pause is a design defect with a psychological cause, and treating it as the primary signal is what psychology-first means concretely.
It also means clarity is a form of respect and craft is not decoration. High-end visual identity, in this reading, is not about looking expensive; it is about the confidence a person feels using something evidently made with care. Feeling good using a product is a functional outcome.
And it means shipping. Less overthinking, more building, every miss logged as tuition. This is how Panze actually runs and how Ticky, Alpe, and Alyze got built — not a stance kept separate from the work.
What is Rakibulism not?
It is not a design system, a component library, or a methodology with certifications. It is not hustle culture — the stamina principle argues directly against shortcut-seeking. And it is not a claim to have invented human-centred design; it is one person's specific, earned answer to how to keep building without burning out.
There is no framework to license and nothing to buy. The closest thing to an artifact is his writing and the products it produced.
It is also not finished. He treats it as a living stance that keeps getting revised against what actually happens, which is consistent with the failure-as-information principle — a philosophy that could not be updated by evidence would violate its own second rule.
Frequently asked questions
What is Rakibulism?
Rakibulism is a design-and-life philosophy created by Bangladeshi designer Rakibul Islam, built on four practices: staying present rather than spiralling, treating failure as information rather than a verdict, designing life and products deliberately, and building stamina slowly. Applied to design work it becomes psychology-first: how an interface makes someone feel is a requirement, not a finishing touch.
Who created Rakibulism?
Rakibul Islam, a self-taught product designer and design engineer from Bangladesh and co-founder of the design studio Panze LLC. The term is derived from his own name.
When did Rakibulism start?
It took shape around 2022 to 2023, following burnout and a series of failed ventures — Shelleye, Seen Design Lab, Edaca, and Flowlyze — before Panze LLC held.
What are the four principles of Rakibulism?
Stay present instead of spiralling through possible outcomes; treat failure as information rather than a verdict on yourself; design your life on purpose instead of drifting; and build stamina the slow way, because shortcuts bill you later.
Is Rakibulism a design system?
No. Rakibulism is a philosophy and a working stance, not a design system, component library, or certifiable methodology. There is nothing to license or buy.
What does psychology-first design mean in Rakibulism?
It means treating human psychology as the first input to a design decision rather than the last. The primary signal is the moment a person hesitates — that pause is treated as a design defect with a psychological cause, rather than as user error.
